Today I found a note from an old boyfriend. It must have come in the mail for me about two years ago. I thought this person & I would remain friends but when we moved on, I guess it was too hard to be friends? I am not really sure but I certainly miss him. The letter said:

Alina,

Keep the dream alive and if you have to, buy some really cute shoes. You may want to buy groceries, but shoes are important too. I love and miss you a whole bunch.

xoxo

(signed his name)

I haven’t changed much from then, at all.

If I were to make a list of people who are not family (and I consider SDC family) to me whom I care for very, very deeply, I think Franklin Page would top it. In other news, I am pretty certain I am going to marry SDC and one day, I am going to have to be Dr Clampitt. On the other hand, I’ve always wanted to be Dr Misra, too. Maybe I can keep my name. Sam wants it to be the same so we can write a book and it will be by Clampitt & Clampitt, M.D.

My dad called me today and after I told him about all the things my family and I have been doing during my visit to Antwerp, he asked, “Is there any more news?” I said, “We are having pani puri tomorrow.” In that vein, I think it is important to record the food I’ve been eating:

Wednesday dinner: urad daal, (cauli)flower bhaji, methi-palak bhaji, roti, rice
Thursday lunch: sholay puri
Thurs dinner: Indian Chinese
Friday lunch: Idli, uttapam, sambhar, chutney
Friday dinner: home-made pizza
Saturday lunch: aloo paratha, raita

Additionally, I have been guzzling fruit, mango in particular and kela-na-wafer! I even bought myself a beer and read my book at a local bar during a rainy afternoon. Needless to say, I’m never coming home.

Yesterday, my boss said:

“You can tell the babies have been getting the T-I-T all weekend; they won’t take their bottles!”

Tomorrow is my dreamy boyfriend’s birthday! I am very excited for him. I staggered all his gifts so he got a few already, but I have planned a very special evening/night for him. He is going to be 22! He’s such a darling, you guys don’t even know.

We are going on vacation on Friday and it’s a very fluid plan. There are our planned stops so far, but we’re going to play it by ear. I want to spend some time outdoors and some time reading. I have a lot of books I want to read. We are going to make a stop at H&M and a stop at Souplantation. But we are going to visit Giselle in Olympia and stay with Hillary in Woodland for a night and stay with Walla in Portland for a night. And Sunday, we’re off to Jace and Ellen’s wedding in Turner, OR. Monday, we get home!

It sucks that I sometimes think Lil Wayne is a better songwriter than Ben Gibbard. That is, “Someday You Will Be Loved” is a god-awful song while “Mrs Officer” is far more interesting. I don’t know. People say that you grow out of Death Cab but maybe they outgrew me. I don’t care how many zillion copies of Narrow Stairs they sold, I can’t get behind it. There is something missing. In fact, when I talked to Franklin about it, I decided that CW must have been unconscious through the entire record-making process. Let’s just put on Facts and call it a day. It’s hard for me to write that because my love for DCfC has been so pure, so relentless for so long but that’s what happened. I still think CW is a genius, though/of course.

My very first Moleskine planner arrived today. It is weekly, 18-months, soft cover and beautiful. You know this about me already but I love organization and planning. And I especially enjoy it with the help of classy tools!

I bought some new sheets for our bed. They came today (along with these beautiful knee-high boots I bought for the winter!!!!) and I dragged SDC into the bedroom so we could make the bed a scant moment after they arrived. The fitted sheet is a golden yellow and the pillows have outlines of realistic looking leaves/flowers/foliage in black and yellow on a white background. Each end of the pillow is a light yellow, too. The comforter cover has two sides so it can match the foliage pillows or be a shiny herringbone pattern. SDC liked my decision on them because they are not girly (when SDC met me, I had Hello Kitty sheets) yet totally classy. He is adamant about our apartment not turning too girly which must be why I can’t get him to agree to putting up curtains. He won’t agree to painting the bathroom pink either. We’re doing red instead. You see, we are a compromising couple.

I am a little disappointed I’m not sleeping in our new sheets tonight, though. I have been sleeping over at MJ’s house most nights. She needs help at night-time and her daughter and son-in-law would like to get some much-needed sleep. They tend to her the entire day. However, I have Wednesday night off and after Kim’s birthday party, I am going to enjoy my beautiful new bed.
